CITYTRIPS | CHINA | BEIJING | BIZARRE STREET FOODS

by

Who doesn’t know this massive city in China? A city of great things, walls that never end, traffic that never stops, but also food on the streets like you won’t find in your own city.

The most fascinating thing here is that literally everything gets eaten. Put a stick in it and throw it in boiling water with pepper fragrance or just simply have some coal and light it up like an improvised BBQ, some spices over it, and a job is done.

When in Beijing it is worth to try out these crazy things just to see, try and to have an idea why people could possibly eat it. Believe me, many things are really nice most of the time, it is just the idea of what you’re eating, especially when it is still alive. Most of the food is fresh and cooked when requested.

Why you should try it

There are about 1900 edible insect species on earth and around 2 billion people worldwide already consume insects as a regular part of their diets. Insects have a high fat, protein, vitamin, fibre and mineral content that is often comparable to fish or livestock.

Want to try out some of the above? Grab your bite at the Donghuamen night market located in the northern end of Wangfujing.

Want to see more?

There are plenty of other markets, such as the night market at Wangfujing. Want to visit a regular restaurant or a cosy bar? then check out Nanluoguxiang, a quaint area with lots of cafes, bars, and shops selling traditional crafts.
